Template:PD-Art
This is a faithful photographic reproduction of a two-dimensional,public domainwork of art. The work of art itself is in the public domain for the following reason:
The official position taken by the Wikimedia Foundation is that "faithful reproductions of two-dimensional public domain works of art are public domain". This photographic reproduction is therefore also considered to be in the public domain in the United States. In other jurisdictions, re-use of this content may be restricted;seeReuse of PD-Art photographsfor details. {{PD-Art}}template without license parameter: please specify why the underlying work is public domain in both the source country and the United States
(Usage:{{PD-Art|1=|deathyear=''year of author's death''|country=''source country''}},where parameter 1= can bePD-old-auto,PD-old-auto-expired,PD-old-auto-1996,PD-old-100or similar. SeeCommons:Multi-license copyright tagsfor more information.) |
This template is for use by the uploader of a photograph taken by somebody else to assert that the photograph can have no independent copyright as it is simply a faithful reproduction of an old, public domain, two-dimensional work of art. For this purpose, 'faithful reproduction' includes even a photograph taken perhaps from several meters away from the work of art, with carefully-arranged and professional lighting, filters and so on. Use of this template means that according to the position of the WMF Board such 'faithful reproduction' photographs are considered to be in the public domain, regardless of how much skill and effort went into taking the picture.
A 'faithful reproduction' in this sense may differ from a purely mechanical copy such as a photocopy or a scan taken directly from the original. Images that are no more than mere photocopies or scans directly taken from an old original artwork can be labeled{{PD-old}}.The{{PD-Art}}template is only for use when the initial reproduction was by means of a photograph, rather than a scan or a photocopy.
The template takes one parameter to indicate why the original work of art is in the public domain (if no parameter is given,{{PD-old}}is assumed). If you use a parameter, it must correspond to apublic domaintag. Do not use as a parameter a copyright license tag such as such as GFDL. SeeCategory:PD Artfor existing categories.
For examples of the tag in use, seeCommons:When to use the PD-Art tag#Usage examples. The template automatically sets the following categories: Category:PD-Art (PD-old default)if no parameter specified and default{{PD-old}}is supplied by the PD-Art template.Category:Files with invalid parameter in PD-Art templateif a invalid license like cc-by-sa-3.0 is specified for the first parameter.
