Timothy Shay Arthur(*6. Juni1809inNewburgh,New York;†6. März1885inPhiladelphia) war ein US-amerikanischer Schriftsteller.

Arthur wuchs inBaltimoreauf und lebte seit 1841 in Philadelphia. Er war seit 1836 mit Eliza Alden verheiratet; sie hatten fünf Kinder.

Arthur war einer der produktivsten Autoren der Zeit vor demAmerikanischen Bürgerkrieg.Viele seiner Werke, so auchTen nights in a bar-room, and what I saw there,unterstützen die amerikanischeAbstinenzbewegung.Ab 1852 war er Herausgeber der ZeitschriftArthur's Home Magazine.
