Bob Avakian(*7. März1943inWashington, D.C.) ist Vorsitzender und Theoretiker der Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP), der größtenmaoistischenGruppe derVereinigten Staaten.

Leben

Avakians Großeltern immigrierten ausArmenien.Avakian wurde in Washington geboren und wuchs inBerkeleyauf. Dort besuchte er das Gymnasium und dieUniversity of California.Er wurde in derBewegung für Meinungsfreiheit(Free Speech Movement oder FSM) politisiert und war zunächst ein Führer derRevolutionary Union(Revolutionärer Bund). Im Jahr 1975 war Avakian ein Mitbegründer der Revolutionären Kommunistischen Partei und ist seither deren Vorsitzender.
