Associating text editors with Git

Use a text editor to open and edit your files with Git.

Using Visual Studio Code as your editor

  1. InstallVisual Studio Code(VS Code). For more information, see "Setting up VS Code"in the VS Code documentation.

  2. OpenTerminalTerminalGit Bash.

  3. Type this command:

    git config --global core.editor "code --wait"

Using Sublime Text as your editor

Using TextMate as your editor

  4. Type this command:

    git config --global core.editor "mate -w"
    

Using Notepad++ as your editor
