HBU Holds 2024 Graduation Ceremony and Degree Awarding Ceremony

Hebei University (HBU) held a graduation ceremony & degree-awarding ceremony for the 2024 class at the gymnasium of Qiyi Road Campus on June 19, with over 10,600 graduates receiving bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees.

School leaders Guo Jian, Shen Shigang, Chen Hongjun, Xu Jianmin, Meng Qingyu, Shan Yaojun, Hu Lijun, Liang Wei, Gong Zhizhong, Zhang Yangjian, representatives of the supervisors from all disciplines and representatives of students and teachers attended this ceremony.

The ceremony started at 10 in the morning. Chen Hongjun, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC HBU Committee and vice president of the university, presided over the graduation ceremony. Shen Shigang, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC HBU Committee, vice president of the university, vice Chairman of HBU Degree Assessment Committee and Doctoral supervisor, announced HBU's decision to confer diplomas on graduates this year.

Guo Jian, Party secretary of the CPC HBU committee, Chairman of HBU Degree Assessment Committee and doctoral supervisor, presented diplomas and awarded degrees to all doctoral graduates. The school leaders jointly launched diplomas and conferred degrees to representatives of Master's and bachelor's graduates.

Guo Jian rewarded 10 graduates the “Kang Le Scholarship”, a scholarship established with donations from the then President, Fellow Kang Le, and his wife, Ms. Du Xiangrong. Kang Le Scholarship was first established in 2021, the centennial of HBU, and used to reward outstanding young students of HBU.

Guo Jian also presented the certificates of outstanding graduates to 10 graduate representatives.

Lin Bochen, a graduate representative from the HBU School of Mathematics and Information Sciences, majored in Data science and Big Data technology, recalled and shared his on-campus studies and life over the past few years. He also called on HBU graduates to take their purity, firmness, sincerity and fervor gained during their studies, and strive to fulfill future responsibilities and missions for Chinese modernization.

Jin Yuwei, a graduate representative from the Graduate School of Education, majored in Pedagogy from the 2020 class, expressed gratitude to the university for its school motto of “seek truth from facts”，which taught her to analyze, identify and solve problems with the rigorous scientific attitude. She regarded it as a precious gift that HBU presents to all graduates, and believed that all should cherish and practice it in a lifetime.

As a teacher representative, Wu Shufang, a professor from the School of management at HBU, urged graduates to strive for their upcoming off-campus life. Graduation is never an end, but a fresh beginning. Only by fighting vigorously, being persevering and making unremitting efforts, can we become a responsible young generation in the new era. Only by aiming high and marching forward without any hesitation, can we break through the obstacles and make achievements on the new journey of Chinese modernization.

On behalf of HBU, Guo Jian extended his warmest congratulations to all the graduates. Together with these graduates, he went over the the Centenary of the Communist Party of China, the success of the 20th Party Congress and other major historical moments, and encouraged students to steadfastly follow the Party and its guidance, and to strive to become the new era’s great young generation who are capable to advance national rejuvenation. Guo also reviewed school’s achievements in recent years with HBU graduates, and commended the progress they made during college, saying that HBU will always be supportive behind their back. In his speech at the ceremony, Guo said it is of great importance for college students to be faithful to our party and country, and called on graduates to always care about the concerns of the country first, put personal ideals in conjunction with the Chinese Dream of national prosperity, ethnic rejuvenation and people’s well-being, and strive to fulfill future responsibilities and missions. It is also of great importance to maintain a thirst for knowledge, and make learning the source of youthful vitality. All should bear in mind the school motto “seek truth from facts” , be erudite so as to approach truth, be resilient so as to innovate，and make yourselves the backbone of advancing the construction of a powerful country in education, science and technology, and talent. All should stay true to the mission of the times, make practice become the foundation of endeavors, bear the responsibility of the new era and be at the forefront. Let youth play the major role in the practice of building a modern socialist country in all respects.

This ceremony adopted both live-broadcast and cloud streaming services. It was streamed live via HBU official WeChat and Weibo channel. There were more than 150,000 viewed, including teachers, students, alumni, parents and people who care about the development of HBU, together witnessed this ceremony.
