Joseph-Alfred Foulon(29 April 1823 – 23 January 1893) was a FrenchRoman Catholic CardinalandArchbishop of Lyon.[1]

Life

Foulon was born inParisand studied in theSaint-Sulpice Seminary.He wasordainedpriest on 18 December 1847 in Paris, where he taught for twelve years in the minor seminary.

He was electedbishop of Nancyon 27 March 1867. He took part in theFirst Vatican Council.He was promoted to theMetropolitan See of Besançonon 30 March 1882, and transferred to theMetropolitan See of Lyonon 26 May 1887.Pope Leo XIIIcreated himcardinal priestin theconsistoryof 24 May 1889 with the title ofSant'Eusebio.

Cardinal Foulon died on 23 January 1893 inLyon.His funeral pronouncement was made on 16 March 1893[2]and he was buried inLyon Cathedral.
