editSpivey attendedCowley County CollegeinArkansas City, Kansas.He was selected by theArizona Diamondbacksin the 36th round of the1996amateur draft and played in the major leagues for the Diamondbacks from2001to2003.He was a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks team when they won theWorld Seriesin 2001, 4 games to 3, against theNew York Yankees.
Spivey was traded to theMilwaukee BrewerswithCraig Counsell,Lyle Overbay,Chad Moeller,Chris CapuanoandJorge de la RosaforRichie Sexson,Shane Nanceand Noochie Varner. Spivey played for the Brewers in2004and2005,until he was traded on June 10, 2005, to theWashington NationalsforpitcherTomokazu Ohka.He signed with theSt. Louis Cardinalson December 23, and spent the entire2006season with theTriple-AMemphis Redbirds.He filed for free agency from the Cardinals after the season.
Following a stint with theBridgeport Bluefishof the independentAtlantic League of Professional Baseballin2007,theBoston Red Soxsigned Spivey to a minor league contract and assigned him to thePawtucket Red Sox,their triple-A affiliate. Spivey re-signed with the Red Sox in January2008,but was released duringspring training.
Spivey was signed to a minor league contract by theNew York Metson March 16, 2009. However, he was released on March 31.[1]During the2009season, Spivey played for theCamden Riversharksof the Atlantic League and theTucson Torosof theGolden Baseball League.
In 2010, Junior Spivey retired from baseball.
