During theSecond Boer War,the 16th brigade was active inSouth Africaas part of the8th Divisionfrom early 1900 until the war ended in 1902.[1]It was under the command of major-generalBarrington Campbell,and included the following battalions:

The brigade was part of the6th Infantry Divisionduring theFirst World War.[2]It served on theWestern Frontthroughout the War.[2]

Second World War

The brigade was based inPalestinebefore theSecond World Warduring theArab revolt,and at the beginning of the war as part of theBritish 8th Infantry Division.It was later part of theBritish 6th Infantry Divisionwhich was redesignated as theBritish 70th Infantry Divisionon 10 October 1941. This brigade was involved in the breakout fromTobrukand after being transferred, along with the rest of the 70th Division, toIndiaandBurma,it was transformed into aChinditformation. It fought in the Second Chindit Campaign of 1944, commanded by BrigadierGilmour Anderson.[4]Battles which the brigade took part in included,Battle of Sidi Barrani,Battle of Bardia,Battle of Damascus,Battle of Tobruk(both stages).[5]
