TheAutopista AP-8is atollautopistain the north ofSpain,crossing theBasque Countryfrom east to west. It is known as theAutopista del Cantábrico(Spanishfor 'Motorway of theCantabrian',Basque:Kantauriko autobidea) and connects the French border withBilbaoviaSan Sebastián,Zarautz,EibarandDurango.At Bilbao the AP-8 continues as the toll-freeAutovía A-8,which runs along the Spanish northern coast toGijónand eventually the region ofGalicia.

The first section of the AP-8 opened in 1971 betweenAmorebietaandBasauri.[3]It was finished in 1976, with the opening of the international connection to theA63 autoroutein France.[4]Additionally, the new southernring roadof Bilbao, designated as AP-8[5]and commonly known as theSupersur,opened in 2011.[6]
