The station is an elevated station, consisting of fourisland platformsserving eight tracks for regular trains, and twobay platformsfor the Akita Shinkansen. The station has a "Midori no Madoguchi"staffed ticket office and a View Plaza travel agency.

History

Akita Station opened on 21 October 1902.The station was absorbed into the JR East network upon the privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987. The station's building was renovated in 1997.
