Early life

Burch grew up inPhoenix, Arizona,[12]and has an older brother named Anthony.[13]Her mother is animmigrant from Thailandwho she describes as spiritual, giving food to spirits and praying to them.[14][13][15]She credits her career path as a voice actress to playingMetal Gear Solidat age 12. Upon seeing voice actorDavid Hayter's name alongside that of the main characters, she looked him up and realized that there were actual people who voiced the characters, as she realized that was what she wanted to do as a career.[16][17]She graduated fromOccidental Collegein Los Angeles in 2012.[18]

After startingHey Ash, Whatcha Playin'?,Burch got her first voice acting role when her brother, Anthony Burch, was hired as a writer forBorderlands 2and he suggested she try out for Tiny Tina.[16][17]ForLife Is Strange,she was cast in the role ofChloe Price,after having also auditioned for the roles of Max Caulfield, Victoria Chase and Kate Marsh.[19][16]She later said that she was surprised by what she could do and had the "opportunity to do in voiceover."[20]

Burch was a writer onCartoon Network'sAdventure Time.[21]She co-wrote episodes such as "The Hall of Egress" and "Islands Part 4: Imaginary Resources",the latter winning aPrimetime Emmy Award.[16][22][7]She was also a writer of anAdventure Timegraphic novelreleased in October 2016.[21]The same year, she would voice characters in animation includingKamala Khan / Ms. MarvelinLego Marvel's Avengers,[23]April O'NeilinTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan,[24]Hana inStar Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness,[25]and Quacho Queen inWorld of Final Fantasy.[26]

In 2020, it was announced that she had signed on to write for the animated show,The Legend of Vox Machina.[53][54]Burch revealed that she has a recording booth in her home which she used to work remotely during theCOVID-19 pandemic.[55]That same year she voicedDanika HartinSpider-Man: Miles Morales,[56]Viper inValorant,[56]Jane inNinjala,[57]MelinThe Last of Us Part II,[56]Musher inThe Red Lantern,[58]andHawkeye (Kate Bishop)inMarvel's Avengers.[59]

In 2021, she began voicing Molly McGee, the protagonist ofThe Ghost and Molly McGee.[60]She sings the series theme song, with co-starDana Snyder,and musical numbers in other episodes.[9][10]The show's creative team based the character around her life.[61][62]Burch praised the series for "showcasing different aspects ofThai culture"and said that voicing Molly McGee was the first time she had voiced a character that reflected her heritage.[32]'

Personal life

Burch datedMust Come Downco-star David Fetzer until his death by accidental opioid overdose in 2012.[63]She discussed this event as well as her own personal mental health issues during her appearance onPaul Gilmartin'sThe Mental Illness Happy Hourpodcast[64]and on Brian W. Foster's showBetween the SheetsonCritical Role'sYouTubechannel.[65]She suffers from chronic anxiety and credits her love of video games to playingHarvest Moonas a child as it was the only thing able to calm her down. She has spoken several times about her anxiety and the positive impact video games had on it.[66][67]On July 1, 2022, Burch came out asqueerandpansexual,saying that coming out felt important "for reasons I can't really explain" and that she had been dating a man for five years.[68]She said it probably is not a shock because "half the characters I play are members of the rainbow fam," with some calling her every "queer nerd's favorite nerd."[69][70]
