In the main event of theRampagebroadcast,Jurassic Express(Jungle BoyandLuchasaurus) defeatedPrivate Party(Marq Quen and Isiah Kassidy) to retain theAEW World Tag Team Championship.

In February 2021,All Elite Wrestling(AEW) held atelevision specialtitledBeach Break,which aired as a special episode ofDynamite.The event replacedBash at the Beachas the promotion's midwinter beach-themed event.[2][3]A second Beach Break was scheduled for late January 2022 to air as a two-part event as special episodes ofDynamiteandRampage,thus establishingBeach Breakas an annual event. It was scheduled to be held on January 26, 2022, at theWolstein CenterinCleveland, Ohio.DynamiteairedliveonTBSwhileRampageaired ontape delayonTNTon January 28.[4]

Storylines

Beach Break featuredprofessional wrestling matchesthat involved different wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds andstorylines.Wrestlers portrayedheroes,villains,orless distinguishable charactersin scripted events that built tension and culminated in a wrestling match or series of matches.[5]Storylines were produced on AEW's weekly television programs,DynamiteandRampage,the supplementary online streaming shows,DarkandElevation,andThe Young Bucks'YouTubeseriesBeing The Elite.

During the specialHoliday Bashepisode ofRampageon December 25, 2021,Cody RhodesdefeatedSammy Guevarato become a record three-timeAEW TNT Champion.[6]The two were scheduled to have a rematch for the championship atBattle of the Belts Ion January 8, 2022;[7]however, Cody was pulled from the event as he had been in contact with family who had tested positive forCOVID-19,thus requiring him to quarantine.[8]Guevara instead faced and defeated Cody's brotherDustin Rhodesat that event to become theinterim champion.[9][10]On the January 19 episode ofDynamite,lineal championCody challenged interim champion Guevara to aladder matchat theDynamitebroadcast of Beach Break to determine the undisputed TNT Champion.[11]
