Carilef(FrenchCalais,LatinCalevisus;died 541) was ahermitwho founded the monastery ofAniole.The town ofSaint-Calaistakes its name from him. According to his ancient biography, theVita Carileffi,KingChildebert Igranted him lands after encountering the hermit in a forest where the king was hunting.[1]Laumerwas his successor andSiviard,another successor, wrote theVita.
In theRoman Catholic Church,his feast is celebrated on 1 July.
