Camille Cottin(French:[kamijkɔtɛ̃];born 1 December 1978) is a French actress and comedian.

Following her debut as a stage actress, she became known in 2013 for playing a capricious Parisian woman in theCanal+hidden camera-sketches seriesConnasse(2013–2015), as well as in the theatrical film based on the seriesThe Parisian Bitch, Princess of Hearts(2015), which brought her significant mainstream success in France. She received a nomination for theCésar Award for Most Promising Actressfor the role. Cottin's international recognition grew with the role of Andréa Martel in theFrance 2drama seriesCall My Agent!(2015–2020).
She subsequently had leading roles in films such asBaby Bumps(2017),The Mystery of Henri Pick(2019),The Dazzled(2019), andToni, en famille(2023). She made her English-language debut inRobert Zemeckis's thriller filmAllied(2016), followed by theBBC Americadrama seriesKilling Eve(2020–2022). In 2021, she starred oppositeMatt DamoninStillwaterand inRidley Scott's biographical crime filmHouse of Gucci.
Early life
editCottin was born in a Jewish family by mother's side: her mother's family was "pieds-noirs"(French citizens living in Algeria whenAlgeriawas still a Frenchcolony).[1]Boulogne-Billancourt, near Paris, but spent her teenage years in London before returning to France, where she became a high school English teacher.[citation needed]At the same time, she took classes at a theatre and dramatic art school and then with the company "Théâtre du Voyageur".[citation needed]
Career
editCottin played small roles in many films and television series. In 2009, she joined the "Troupe àPalmade".[2]She appeared the same year in an advertisement for a Japanese telephone, directed byWes AndersonwithBrad Pitt,with music bySerge Gainsbourgwith the song "Poupée de cire, poupée de son"sung byFrance Gall.
In 2013, she played the main role inConnasseonCanal+produced by Silex Films, a series consisting of sketches incandid cameraof less than two minutes each. Written byNoémie Saglioand Éloïse Lang, the episodes were broadcast onLe Grand Journaland became available on DVD from 4 March 2014.[3][4]She later appeared in the film based on the series titledThe Parisian Bitch, Princess of Hearts,released in 2015.
In 2015, Cottin played the lead role of agent Andréa Martel inCall My Agent!,a television series which has run for four seasons (a fifth season and a movie are in the pipeline) that was first broadcast onFrance 2and which later enjoyed wide international distribution onNetflix;Cottin won a Best Actress ACS Award for her role. In 2016, Cottin appeared inAllied,In the Shadow of IrisandThe Fabulous Patars.
In 2022, she joined the cast of the mystery filmA Haunting in Venice,directed byKenneth Branagh.[5]Greg Nussen writing for theSlant Magazine,praised Cottin's performance stating that she was "surprisingly vulnerable as individual grappling with the determinism of religious absolutism".[6]
In 2023, she played inGolda,a movie about Israel and theYom Kippur War.[7]
Personal life
editCamille Cottin is the daughter of artist Gilles Cottin.[8] Her great-great-grandfather was historianPaul Cottin,former director ofBibliotheque de l'Arsenal.
Cottin has been in a relationship with architect Benjamin Mahon since 2005. They have two children, a son born in 2009,[9][10]and a daughter born in August 2015.[9][11]Cottin and Mahon are not married.[12]Cottin said she is against marriage. "Even if I plan to spend the rest of my life with him, I want to feel this share of freedom that previous generations have allowed us to acquire. This possibility of saying:" If I am not happy, I leave. "[12]
