Casey Manierka-Quaile,also known asCasey MQ,is aCanadiansinger, musician, film composer, songwriter, and record producer.[1]In 2022, he won theCanadian Screen AwardforBest Original Songat the10th Canadian Screen Awardsfor "And Then We Don't", a song he co-wrote withTika SimoneforThyrone Tommy's filmLearn to Swim.[2]
Career
editMQ began making music sometime during the 2010s. Formerly associated with the band Unbuttoned,[3]MQ released his solo debut album, titledbabycasey,in 2020.[4]In the same year, he was one of the creators ofClub Quarantine,a popularZoom-based online club night forLGBTQaudiences during theCOVID-19 pandemic.[5]
In 2021, MQ followed up with the remix albumbabycasey: ultra.[6]
He has also been a member of the reunited lineup of 1980s New Wave bandSpoons,[7]and was one of the producers onCadence Weapon'sPolaris Music Prize-winning albumParallel World.[8]
