Cyborg 009 VS Devilman(サイボーグ009VSデビルマン,Saibōgu 009 VS Debiruman)is a three-partanimeOVAthat serves as acrossoverbetween theCyborg 009andDevilmanseries. It was first screened on 17 October 2015[3]and was released on 11 November 2015.[2]The series inspired amangaadaptation and aprequelnovel.Netflixacquired the international streaming rights for the series.

Plot

Cyborg 009 and his team come into conflict with a mysterious threat that leads to Japan and take on Devilman in the process. After some misunderstandings, a secret team of Cyborgs designed by the evil Black Ghost, and a devil outbreak it's up to 009 and Devilman to prevent total annihilation.[4]

The film was originally announced as two separate projects.

BeforeGo Nagaibecame the author ofDevilman,he worked as an assistant toShotaro Ishinomori,drawing backgrounds for theCyborg 009manga.It was reported inSankei Sportsthat he wished to do a collaboration with Ishinomori.[4]

It was announced in March 2015 that aCyborg 009anime,directed byJun Kawagoe,was in production to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the manga's debut.[10]It was later announced that the anime would receive a theatrical release in autumn.[11]

Dynamic Planningseparately announced aDevilmananime in April 2014, produced byanimation studioActas.The project was scheduled for a fall 2015 release.[12]

It was revealed in June 2015 that the two separately announced projects would in fact be a single crossover, titledCyborg 009 VS Devilman.[4]

The anime is a three-partoriginal video animationdirected by Jun Kawagoe and written by Tadashi Hayakawa, with animation by the studios Bee Media andActas.[13][14]JAM Projectproduced both the opening theme song, "Cyborg 009~Nine Cyborg Soldiers~ ", and the ending theme," Devil Mind ~Ai wa Chikara~ ".[15]

Release

The first full trailer for the anime was released on 25 August 2015.[16][2]

It was originally announced that the anime would have a two-week run in eight theaters;[13]however, the number of theaters was later expanded to ten.[3]It debuted on 17 October 2015.[3]

The complete set of three 30-minute episodes was released onBlu-rayon 11 November 2015. The individual episodes were released onDVDseparately on 11 November 2015, 9 December 2015, and 6 January 2016.[2]

Netflixacquired the streaming rights to the series, streaming it in 20 languages in 190 countries.[6]The English dub was directed byBob Buchholzand translated by Sachiko Takahashi.[6]

In 2025, Netflix sublicensed the series toDiscotek Mediafor home release.[17]
