DeWayne Stephen "Blackbyrd" McKnight(born April 17, 1954) is an Americanguitarist.He was a member ofThe Headhunters,ajazz-funkfusionbandfrom 1975 through 1978 andParliament-Funkadelicfrom 1978 through 2021, with whom he still plays on occasion. He served briefly as guitarist for theRed Hot Chili Peppersafter the death ofHillel Slovakin 1988 before being replaced byJohn Frusciante.[3][4]He also played briefly withMiles Davisin 1986.[citation needed]
