Early life
editKarl Diedrich Bader was born inAlexandria, Virginia,onChristmas Eve,1966, the son ofGretta Bader(néeMargaret Marie Lange;1931–2014), a sculptor, andWilliam B. Bader(1931–2016), a foundation executive and political activist.[3]His patrilineal great-grandfather wasEdward L. Bader,who served as themayor of Atlantic City, New Jerseyand is of German and Scottish heritage.[4]
When Bader was two years old, his family moved toParis,but he returned to the U.S. to attendGroveton High School.He graduated fromT.C. Williams High Schoolin Alexandria, Virginia, and attended college at theUniversity of North Carolina School of the Arts.[5]

editAfter a few guest roles on populartelevision seriessuch asThe Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,Star Trek: The Next Generation,Quantum Leap,Diagnosis: MurderandCheers,Bader's first major role was in the 1993 seriesDanger Theatre,playing The Searcher. He moved into cinema acting for the 1993 film version ofThe Beverly Hillbillies,and returned to television, playing Oswald onThe Drew Carey Showstarting in 1995. He appeared in the 1999 filmOffice Spaceas Peter's neighbor Lawrence, and in the 2004 filmNapoleon Dynamiteas Rex, the owner of aTaekwondodojang.He performs in the 2004 filmEurotripas a thief. In 2010, Bader took the role of Charlie on the television seriesOutsourced.

editBader has been married to actress Dulcy Rogers since May 1997.[3]Together they have two children, Ondine and Sebastian.[7][8][3]
