Geography
editFederal electoral division boundaries in Australia are determined at redistributions by a redistribution committee appointed by theAustralian Electoral Commission.Redistributions occur for the boundaries of divisions in a particular state, and they occur every seven years, or sooner if a state's representation entitlement changes or when divisions of a state are malapportioned.[1]
History
editThe division is named in honour ofCharles Bean,an Australianwar correspondentand historian duringWorld War I.
The Division of Bean was created in 2018 by theAustralian Electoral Commission,as part of areapportionmentto establish a third seat in theAustralian Capital Territorywhich occurred due to population growth in the territory.[2]The division is located in the south of the ACT and takes in the urban districts ofTuggeranong, theMolonglo Valley,Weston Creekand southernWoden Valley, the rural districts of Booth, Coree, Paddys River,Stromloand Tennent and the uninhabited districts of Cotter River, Mount Clear and Rendezvous Creek.[3]The external territory ofNorfolk Islandis also included in the division.[3]These districts and Norfolk Island were previously part of theDivision of Canberra.
