Bailey struggled in school until he found his calling in his high school's drama department. He was soon performing in each school play and went on to study formally at theAmerican Academy of Dramatic ArtsinNew York City.He briefly attendedSanta Barbara City College.He appeared inAlmost Famous,portrayingJann Wenner.He was seen inCenter Stage,[3]Fight Club,[4]Catherine Jelski'sThe Young Unknowns,The Scoundrel's Wife,[5]Seven and a Match,[citation needed]Renny Harlin'sMindhuntersforMiramax,[6]and the independent featureSexual Lifefor directorKen Kwapis.[7]He auditioned for the role ofBruce WayneinBatman Begins(2005).[8]

His television appearances includeDawson's Creek,HBO's highly acclaimed seriesBand of Brothersproduced byTom HanksandSteven Spielberg,[9]and the HBO original filmAnd Starring Pancho Villa as HimselfoppositeAntonio Banderas.[10]

In 2007, Bailey was awarded aDaytime Emmyfor his performance inLife of the Party.[11][12]Bailey had recurring guest-starring roles on the TV seriesDawson's CreekandER.[13]

In 2010, Bailey had a recurring role inUSA Network'sCovert Affairsas Ben Mercer, Annie's ex-boyfriend, who was being targeted by theCIA,before returning to the Agency near the end of Season 1.[14]Bailey had a guest role on30 Rockin 2011 as Anders, a love interest ofLiz Lemon's who is "definitely not a Swiss prostitute that Martha Stewart recommended."[15]In 2012, Bailey started recurring onOnce Upon a Timeas August Booth.[16]

On May 1, 2013, Bailey guest-starred in "Traumatic Wound" onLaw & Order: Special Victims Unitas Frank Patterson, anIraqwar veteranwithPTSDwho becomes a key witness in an investigation of asexual assaultin a nightclub.[17]
