Eugène Joseph Delporte(10 January 1882 – 19 October 1955) was aBelgianastronomerborn inGenappe.[2][3]

He discovered a total of sixty-sixasteroids.Notable discoveries include1221 Amor(which lent its name to theAmor asteroids) and theApollo asteroid2101 Adonis.[2]He discovered or co-discovered somecometsas well, including periodic comet57P/du Toit-Neujmin-Delporte.[2]He worked in theObservatoire Royal de Belgique(Belgian Royal Observatory), situated in the town ofUccle(after which the asteroid1276 Uccliais named).[2]He started there in 1903 after receiving his doctorate that year from theFree University of Brussels.[4]

In 1930, he drew the modern boundaries between all of theconstellationsin the sky, along lines ofright ascensionanddeclinationfor theepochB1875.0.[2]

The Florian asteroid1274 Delportia(discovered by himself) and the lunar impact craterDelportewere named after him.[3][5]
