Fairfax Avenueis a street in the north central area of the city ofLos Angeles,California,United States. It runs fromLa Cienega BoulevardinCulver Cityat its southern end toHollywood BoulevardinHollywoodon its northern end. FromLa Cienega Boulevard(betweenCulver CityandMid-City) toSunset BoulevardbetweenWest HollywoodandHollywood,Fairfax Avenue separates theWestsidefrom the central part of the city along withVenice Boulevard,La Cienega Boulevard,Hauser Boulevard, San Vicente Boulevard, South Cochran Avenue,Wilshire Boulevard,6th Street, Cochran Avenue, 4th Street, La Brea Avenue, Fountain Avenue andSunset Boulevard.
Fairfax Avenue forms the western boundary ofHancock Parkas well asPark La Brea,a 160-acre (60 ha), 4,222-unit apartment complex with over 10,000 residents.[1]
SinceWorld War II,theFairfax Districthas been a heavily Jewish neighborhood inMid-City West.Fairfax High School,on the corner of Fairfax andMelrose Avenue,was known as the alma mater of many entertainment industry personalities.Canter's Delihas been a late night hangout in Los Angeles since the 1940s.CBS's Television Cityis located on the corner of Fairfax andBeverly Boulevard,where thousands camp out to wait for a chance to watchThe Price Is Right,and the former site ofGilmore Stadium,where theminor league baseballteam, theHollywood Stars,used to play prior to theDodgersmoving fromBrooklyn.World-famous recording studio,Cherokee Studios,home to over 250 gold and platinum records, is just above Melrose Avenue.
The Groveis off3rd Streetand Fairfax. Due to the high density of attractions, Fairfax is one of the most congested streets in Los Angeles.Little Ethiopiais further south by Olympic Blvd and north byPico Boulevardbetween theCarthay SquareandWilshire Vistaneighborhoods inWest Los Angeles.South of Olympic, Fairfax narrows to two lanes,Pico Boulevardbetween theCrestview,Picfair Village,Wilshire VistaandCarthay Squareneighborhoods inWest Los AngelesandVenice Boulevardbetween theCrestviewandPicfair Villageneighborhoods inWest Los Angelesand theLafayette Squareneighborhood inMid-City.
At the northeast corner ofWilshire Boulevardand Fairfax is the formerMay Companydepartment store building, which was converted to theLos Angeles County Museum of Artand will be the future home of theAcademy Museum of Motion Pictures.ThePetersen Automotive Museumis located on the southeast corner of Wilshire/Fairfax.
Metro Localline 217 serves Fairfax Avenue.An underground stationfor theMetro D LineatWilshire Boulevardis currently under construction and is due to open in 2023.
