Origine:Labandierarisale ai tempi delloPatriarcato di Aquileia,che dal 1077 al 1420 governò come stato sovrano, vassallo delSacro Romano Impero.L’esemplare più celebre e antico del vessillo patriarcale è esposto nel Museo delDuomo di Udine.Si tratta di un drappo quadrangolare (61 x 65,5 cm) di seta color grigio-azzurro, che faceva parte del corredo funerario del patriarcaBertrando di Saint Geniès.LabandieradellaPatria del Friulinon va confusa con quella dell’istituzione amministrativa “Regione AutonomaFriuli Venezia Giulia”,simile per la presenza di un’aquila e del colore di sfondo. Il rapace è però posto in diversa posizione. La bandiera regionale ha un’origine molto successiva (1963) e un diverso significato.
