Ford Duratec engineis a brand name of theFord of Europeused for the company's range ofgasoline-poweredI3,I4,I5andV6passenger car engines. The original 1993Duratec V6 enginewas designed byFordandPorsche.[1]Ford introduced this engine in theFord Mondeo.Over time, "Duratec" became an umbrella name for Ford's gasoline engines unrelated to the original V6. TheFord Zeta engine,Ford Sigma engineandFord Cyclone engineall carry the Duratec name, but are otherwise unrelated to each other or the original 1993 Duratec V6. The ambiguous use of the name is similar to Ford's use of theZetecfor the previous generation of gasoline engines, theDuratorqname for diesel engines, andEcoBoostfor turbocharged gasoline engines.
