History
editGordon was incorporated as a village in 1885 when the railroad was extended to that point.[4]It was named for John Gordon, a pioneer settler.[5][6]Gordon was incorporated in November 1885.[7]

editAs of thecensus[9]of 2010, there were 1,612 people, 685 households, and 420 families living in the city. Thepopulation densitywas 1,733.3 inhabitants per square mile (669.2/km2). There were 806 housing units at an average density of 866.7 per square mile (334.6/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 75.6%White,0.2%African American,20.0%Native American,0.5%Asian,0.1%Pacific Islander,0.6% fromother races,and 3.0% from two or more races.HispanicorLatinoof any race were 4.2% of the population.
There were 685 households, of which 30.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.4% weremarried couplesliving together, 12.4% had a female householder with no husband present, 4.5% had a male householder with no wife present, and 38.7% were non-families. 36.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 18% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 2.98.
The median age in the city was 42.7 years. 26.4% of residents were under the age of 18; 7.2% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 18.6% were from 25 to 44; 26% were from 45 to 64; and 21.8% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 47.5% male and 52.5% female.

editAs of thecensus[10]of 2000, there were 1,756 people, 733 households, and 467 families living in the city. The population density was 1,881.0 inhabitants per square mile (726.3/km2). There were 825 housing units at an average density of 883.7 per square mile (341.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 82.35%White,15.43%Native American,0.28%Asian,0.06%Pacific Islander,0.28% fromother races,and 1.59% from two or more races.HispanicorLatinoof any race were 1.65% of the population.
There were 733 households, out of which 29.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% weremarried couplesliving together, 12.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% were non-families. 33.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 19.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.97.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 27.4% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 21.1% from 25 to 44, 21.0% from 45 to 64, and 23.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females, there were 84.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 77.3 males.
As of 2000 the median income for a household in the city was $27,896, and the median income for a family was $35,139. Males had a median income of $27,656 versus $16,927 for females. Theper capita incomefor the city was $14,105. About 13.4% of families and 15.6% of the population were below thepoverty line,including 24.5% of those under age 18 and 8.0% of those age 65 or over.
