TheGrainger challengeis a scientific competition to find an economical way toremovearsenicfromarsenic-contaminated groundwater.This competition is being funded by theUnited States National Academy of Engineeringand the Grainger Foundation and is meant to help provide safedrinking waterto countries such asBangladesh,India,andCambodia.

In 2007, the winner of the Gold Award ($1,000,000) wasAbul Hussam,for his invention of theSono arsenic filter.The Silver Award ($200,000) was awarded toArup K Senguptafor his invention and implementation ofArsenXnphybrid anion exchange (HAIX) resin.[1]The Children's Safe Drinking Water Program atProcter & Gamble(P&G), Cincinnati, received the Bronze Award of US$100,000 for thePUR™ Purifier of Watercoagulation and flocculation water treatment system.
