IEEE 802.3is aworking groupand a collection of standards defining thephysical layeranddata link layer'smedia access control(MAC) of wiredEthernet. The standards are produced by the working group ofInstitute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers(IEEE). This is generally alocal area network(LAN) technology with somewide area network(WAN) applications. Physical connections are made between nodes and/or infrastructure devices (hubs, switches, routers) by various types of copper orfiber cable.

802.3 is a technology that supports theIEEE 802.1network architecture.

802.3 also defines a LAN access method usingCSMA/CD.
