editBrestrich-Lange competed forEast Germanyin the1980 Summer Olympicsheld inMoscowin the 100 metres where she finished third behindLyudmila Kondratyevaand East German teammateMarlies Göhr.She then joined with Göhr and fellow East GermansRomy MüllerandBärbel Wöckelto wingoldin the4 × 100 metres relay.[1]
Due to the Eastern Bloc countries boycotting theLos Angeles Olympics,Auerswald missed the 1984 Games, but returned in the1988 Seoul Olympicsto team up again withMarlies Göhras well asSilke MöllerandKerstin Behrendtto finish second behind theUSAteam.[1]
