Ione Skye Lee(/ˈni/;born September 4, 1970) is a British-American actress. She made her film debut in the thrillerRiver's Edge(1986) before gaining mainstream exposure for her starring role inCameron Crowe'sSay Anything...(1989). She continued to appear in films throughout the 1990s, with notable roles inGas Food Lodging(1992),Wayne's World(1992) andOne Night Stand(1997).

Early life

Skye is the daughter of folk singer-songwriterDonovanand model Enid Karl (née Stulberger). Her father is Scottish-born with some Irish ancestry and grew up in England.[2]Her mother is an American who was raised inthe Bronx,New York City, and isJewish.[3][4]Her second name comes from theIsle of Skye.She is the younger sister ofCamp FreddysingerDonovan Leitch.Skye's parents were separated at the time of her birth, and she was raised by her mother, having little to no contact with her father.[5]

Skye grew up primarily in Los Angeles and San Francisco, and also spent time in Connecticut. She attendedImmaculate Heart High SchoolandHollywood High Schoolin Los Angeles.[5]

Career

Skye made her film debut with a supporting role inRiver's Edgein 1986,[5]followed by a role as the title character inThe Rachel Papers(1989). She played Diane Court, a withdrawn high school valedictorian, in the 1989 filmSay Anything...,the feature film debut of directorCameron Crowe;the film attained acult followingand lent Skye international recognition.[6]

In 1992, she played the role of Eleanor Grey on the short-lived television seriesCovington Cross,starred inAllison Anders's debut feature filmGas Food Lodging(which also featured Skye's brotherDonovan Leitch),[7]and had a supporting role in the Stephen La Rocque filmSamantha.She subsequently had supporting roles as Elise in the comedyWayne's World(1992) and theMike Figgis-directed dramaOne Night Stand(1997).

She later appeared in the music video for theHarvey Dangersong "Sad Sweetheart of the Rodeo." In 2007, Skye had a small, well-received part in theDavid FincherfilmZodiac.

In an interview withmondo-video.com[8]in December 2010, Skye said she had not paid perfect attention to her career arc over the years, saying she "never struck when the iron was hot" when it came to going after big Hollywood roles in her 20s.

In 2013, she appeared in a supporting part in the independent horror filmHaunt,withJacki Weaver.[9]In 2016, Skye directed the music video for theAgainst Me!single "333".[10]The same year, she appeared in the short filmKitty,directed byChloë Sevigny.[11]

In addition to acting, Skye is also a painter, and sells her own works.[12]She also wrote the children's bookMy Yiddish Vacation,published byHenry Holt and Companyin May 2014.[13]Skye has cited comic book artistDaniel Clowesas an inspiration for her painting and writing.[14]

Personal life

From the age of 16, Skye had a relationship withAnthony Kiedis,singer for theRed Hot Chili Peppersfor several years.[14]

In 1992, Skye marriedAdam Horovitz,a member of theBeastie Boys.[15]The couple separated in 1995, got back together in 1996, but eventually separated for good later that year and divorced in 1999, with the divorce being finalized in 2000.[14]

Skye then had a relationship with furniture designer David Netto.[16]They had a daughter Kate, born December 2001.[15]Skye's home in Hollywood, and Netto's apartment in New York City were featured in the February 2003 issue ofVogue.The two were engaged, but eventually separated.[17]

In 2008, Skye became engaged to Australian musicianBen Lee.[18]On December 29, 2008, Skye and Lee were married in a Hindu wedding ceremony in India.[18]They have one daughter Goldie Priya, born September 24, 2009.[19]

In an extensive 2015 interview, Skye discussed her struggle with addiction, including bouts with alcoholism and other drug use.[14]
