Early life

McDorman was born inDallas, Texas,the son of Deborah Gale (néeStallings) and John Allen McDorman III. He has a younger sister, Morgan, and an older half-sister, Amanda. McDorman studied acting at the Dallas Young Actors Studio and Nancy Chartier's Film and Acting Studio. He attendedRichardson High School,Westwood Junior High and Northwood Hills Elementary inTexas.

Career

McDorman starred in theFoxsitcomQuintupletsfrom 2004 to 2005, and later guest-starred onHouse,CSI: MiamiandCold Case.[1]He made his film debut in the 2005 thrillerEchoes of Innocence,and later has appeared inAquamarine,Bring It On: All or NothingandLive Free or Die Hard.From 2007 to 2011, McDorman starred as Evan Chambers in theABC Familyteen drama seriesGreek.He also played the lead role in the 2011LifetimemovieThe Craigslist Killer.[2][3]

In 2012, McDorman played the male lead role oppositeLaura Preponin the short-livedNBCsitcomAre You There, Chelsea?.[4]He later joined the cast ofShowtimecomedy-drama,Shamelessas Mike Pratt.[5]He starred in the filmSee You in ValhallaoppositeSarah Hyland,[6]and in 2014 co-starred inClint Eastwood's filmAmerican Sniper.[7]Also in 2014, McDorman was cast in the male lead role oppositeLio Tiptonin theABCromantic comedy series,Manhattan Love Story.[8]In 2015, he starred in CBS'sLimitlessas Brian Finch, a young man who uses a mysterious drug called "NZT" to enhance his intelligence to help theFBIsolve cases. The TV series continued the story ofthe motion picture of the same name.McDorman went on to play Mr. Bruno in the Academy Award nominated filmLady Birdin 2017. Additionally he was seen as Nelson Gardner on the highly acclaimed episode of HBO'sWatchmenentitled "This Extraordinary Being".His main role in 2023'sMrs. Davisreunited him withWatchmencreatorDamon Lindelof.[9]
