James Strong (director)

James Strongis a British television and film director and writer, best known for his work onBroadchurchfor which he wasBAFTA-nominated for Best Director Fiction 2015. He trained atGranada TVand has directed episodes of the showsHolby CityandDoctors,as well as seven episodes ofDoctor Whoand two episodes of its spin-off seriesTorchwood.His work on theDoctor Whoepisode "Voyage of the Damned"won him aBAFTA Cymruaward for Best Director in 2008.[1]

In 2007, he directed the autobiographical documentaryElton John: Me, Myself & Iand in 2008 he directed three episodes ofBonekickers.He then directedHuntedandBest Possible Taste: The Kenny Everett StoryandSilent Witnessin 2010 followed by the feature filmUnitedandDownton Abbeyin 2011. He was lead director and associate producer onBroadchurch,which won sixBAFTAsincluding Best Drama and for which he was nominated for BAFTA Best Director Fiction.

Strong followed this with work on Series 2 ofBroadchurch,the US remakeGracepointin 2013 and other US pilots, includingKingmakersfor ABC in 2015 andDrewin 2016. He also directed episodes of theStephen Kingadaptation andJ. J. Abramsproduced11.22.63.

He directed and executive produced "Liar"(2017) forITVandAMCand the critically acclaimed mini-seriesVanity Fair(2018) forITVandAmazon Studios.He was also set to direct aJ.R.R. Tolkienbiopic entitledMiddle Earth(later re-titledTolkien),[2]but dropped out for unknown reasons.
