History
editJane's Information Group was founded in 1898 byFred T. Jane,who had begun sketching ships as an enthusiast naval artist while living inPortsmouth.This gradually developed into an encyclopedic knowledge, culminating in the publishing ofAll the World's Fighting Ships(1898).[1]The company then gradually branched out into other areas of military expertise. The books andtrade magazinespublished by the company are often considered thede factopublic source of information on warfare and transportation systems.
Based inGreater Londonfor most of its existence, the group was owned by theThomson Corporation,the Woodbridge Company,[2]thenIHS Markit,[3]before being acquired byMontagu Private Equityin 2019.[4]
In March 2022, Janes acquired Washington, D.C.-based RWR Advisory Group.[5]

Jane's Combat Simulationswas a brand ofcomputer flight simulation gamesand naval warfare simulations produced between 1996 and 2000 under license toElectronic Arts.
