Career
editStern began his career by writing the screenplay forMr. Popper's Penguinsin 2011.[1]In 2012, he wrote for the comedy filmThe Watch.[2]The following year, he wrote the comedy filmThe Internship.[3]In 2014, Stern was hired to writeThe Lego Movie 2: The Second Part(2019), but eventually moved on to writing the spinoffsThe Lego Batman MovieandThe Lego Ninjago Movie(both 2017).[4]In the same year, he wrote a script based on theDisney theme parkattractionIt's a Small World.[5]In 2015, he wrote and created the television seriesDr. Ken.[6]In 2017, he produced the live action filmIt Happened in L.A.[7]
After writing screenplays, Stern directed his feature film debut,Happy Anniversary,a 2018Netflixfilm.[8][9]He also served as an executive producer onStorks(2016) andSmallfoot(2018).[10]In 2019, he created the animated seriesGreen Eggs and Ham,based on theDr. Seussbook of the same name.[11]In 2020, he signed on to produce theWarner Animation GroupfilmToto,[12]before he was replaced byDerek Freyin 2021.[13]He gained notability from directing theDC ComicsfilmDC League of Super-Pets.[14]He teamed up withRobert Zemeckisto write theHBO Maxstreaming seriesTooned Out.[15]In 2024, Stern was set to produce the animated adaptation ofThe Cat in the Hat(2026).[16]
