Jhund(transl.Herd, unorganised group) is a 2022 IndianHindi-languagebiographicalsports filmbased on the life ofVijay Barse,the founder ofNGOSlum Soccer. It is produced byBhushan Kumar,Krishan Kumar,Sandip Singh,Raaj Hiremath, Savita Hiremath,Nagraj Manjule,Gargee Kulkarni and Meenu Arora under the banner ofT-Series,Tandav Films Entertainment Pvt.Ltd and Aatpat Films. The filming began in December 2018 inNagpur.[5]The film starringAmitabh Bachchan,Akash Thosar,Rinku Rajguruand Ankush Gedam, is written and directed byNagraj Manjule.[6]

Based on the life ofVijay Barse,the film is about a sports teacher, who, on the edge of retirement, makes afootballteam of children from a slum area, and how it changes their lives.

The filming ofJhundbegan in December 2018 atNagpur.The story of the film is based on the life ofVijay Barse,founder of Slum Soccers. Bachchan plays a professor who motivates thestreet childrento form a football team.[5][8] This is Akash, Rinku, and Nagraj's second collaboration after their 2016 Marathi filmSairat.The film waswrapped upon 31 August 2019.[9]

The film was scheduled for release on 20 September 2019, the date was tweeted by film critic and trade analystTaran Adarsh.[10][non-primary source needed]It was later postponed to 13 December 2019.[citation needed]On 21 January 2020, the film release date was announced to be 8 May 2020.[11]The film was further postponed due to theCOVID-19 pandemic.[12][13]In October 2020, the film's released was put on hold while filmmakers work to resolve copyright issues in the courts.[14]The film was released on 4 March 2022.[1][15][non-primary source needed]

Jhundis estimated to have collected a total of₹14.76 croreby the end of the third week in India.[4]In the end, the film stopped running with a collection of ₹29.6 crores.[18]

The film received highly positive reviews from critics praising the performance of ensemble cast, first half, humour, social message and visuals while the pacing in latter half was criticized.[19][20]On thereview aggregatorwebsiteRotten Tomatoes,81% of 16 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 6.6/10.[21]
