Early life
editDuttine was born inShelf,Halifax,West Riding of Yorkshire,England.[3]His father, Geoffrey, is the brother of actorJohn Duttine,whose name prohibited his nephew ’Johnny’ using his real name and having to change it to ‘Joe’.
Joe moved toLondonand has attended theDrama Centre Londonfrom 1989–1992, where he studiedStanislavski's systemofmethod actingalongside actorsCraig KellyandJohn Simm.[4]
Career
editDuttine made his television debut in 1992 appearing in the television seriesBetween the Lines.Duttine has appeared in over 25 television roles including the television seriesPie in the Sky,as Steve Turner in 21 episodes, (1994–1995); oppositeMartin Kempin the seriesSerious and Organised,appearing as D.C. Tony Finn; appearing as Craig Tate inBlood Sweat, and Tears;Life on Mars,as Malcolm Cox in one episode (2006); andHolbyBlue,as Toby Wilson in one episode (2008). He played DS Carr inCoronation Street,and miner Colin Farr in "UnderWorld" episode ofDalziel and Pascoe.He has also made appearances inWaterloo Roadas Andy Harker, andShamelessasCameron Donnelly.In 2013 he reappeared inCoronation StreetasTim Metcalfe,the father ofFaye Windass,and was cast as Rutter in the major BBC seriesThe Village.He is also known for his collaborations withBAFTA awardnominated actorJohn Simm,whom he met at drama school. They have appeared together in television shows such asLife on Mars,The VillageandScott and Bailey.
He has also appeared in several films such as the 2001 comedy-dramaThe Navigators,playing the role of Paul.
