Yamashita started her career as ashōjomangaartist. She made her debut as a professional artist in 1980 in the magazineMargaret.[1]In her early years, she was inspired by the style ofMariko Iwadate.[2]She is best known forThe Life of Genius Professor Yanagizawa,which is being published in theseinenmagazineMorning,and for which she received the 2003Kodansha Manga Awardfor general manga.[3]The main character of the manga is modeled after her father.[2]
For her seriesLandshe received the Grand Prize at theTezuka Osamu Cultural Prize2021.
