Ken Cuperus(born 1972) is a Canadian television writer and producer, who is a partner with his wife Michelle Melanson in the children's television production firm Headspinner Productions.[1]He is most noted as a writer of the children's television seriesHappy House of Frightenstein,for which he and writing partnerSandy Jobin-Bevanswon theCanadian Screen Awardfor Best Writing in an Animated Program or Series at the10th Canadian Screen Awardsin 2022[2]and Best Writing in a Preschool Program or Series at the11th Canadian Screen Awardsin 2023.[3]
Originally fromWinnipeg,Manitoba,he began his career as a member of the sketch comedy troupe Brave New Weasels with Jobin-Bevans, Ron Moore and Matt Kippen,[4]as well as writing for the television seriesFreaky Storiesand the short filmGood Monday,for which he received aCanadian Comedy Awardnomination for Best Writing in a Film at the2nd Canadian Comedy Awardsin 2001.[5]
He was subsequently a writer for television series such asMarvin the Tap-Dancing Horse,Medabots,John Callahan's Quads!,George Shrinks,The Berenstain Bears,Moville Mysteries,The Doodlebops,Carl²,Stargate: AtlantisandTotal Dramabefore creating the television seriesThe Stanley Dynamicin 2015.[6]
Cuperus and Melanson launched Headspinner in 2018.[7]The company's productions have includedHappy House of Frightenstein,Denis and MeandAunty B's House.
