Ludovico di Caporiacco

Ludovico di Caporiacco(22 January 1900, inUdine– 18 July 1951, inParma) was an Italianarachnologist.

Caporiacco took part in an expedition to theJebel Uweinat,a mountain massif in the boundary region ofSudan,Libya,andEgypt.On the mission, he, together with Hungarian explorerLászló Almásy,discovered the prehistoric rock paintings ofAin Douain 1933. In 1943 he was appointed professor ofzoologyto the faculty of sciences at theUniversity of Parma.

He was the author of numerous scientific papers onarachnidsnative toItalyand otherMediterranean regions.He also published articles on species indigenous to East Africa, Central Asia (Himalayasand theKarakoram) as well as Central and South America.[1]He was the taxonomic authority of numerous arachnid genera and species.[2]Taxa with specific epithet ofcaporiaccoiare named in his honor,[3]an example being the spider speciesZodarion caporiaccoi.
