Luke Burgess(born 20 August 1984) is a retired professionalrugby unionplayer. His usual position wasscrum-half.He representedAustraliaon 37 occasions.

Early career

Burgess was born inNewcastle, Australia.[citation needed]He was educated atSt Joseph's College, Hunters Hill.[1]He played his club rugby with Sydney University Colts andEastern Suburbs RUFCin Sydney.

Professional career

He played with theBrumbiesfrom 2003 to 2007, but due to the presence ofWallabycaptainGeorge Gregan,he only made two appearances for the team, making hisSuper 12debut in 2005.[2]In 2007 he played for theMelbourne Rebelsin the now defunctAustralian Rugby Championship.

Burgess joined theNSW Waratahsin 2008, and made his first Super 14 appearance off the bench mid-year. Later that year he made his Test debut for theWallabiesagainstIrelandat theTelstra Dome,Melbourne. A knee injury kept him out of the2008 Tri Nations Series,but he was selected for the Wallabies end 2008 Spring Tour.[citation needed]

From 2011, Burgess played forStade Toulousainin theTop 14championship, France, making his debut in theHeineken Cupmatch againstGloucester.

He joined theMelbourne Rebelsfor the start of the 2014Super Rugbyseason.[3][4][5]

In 2015, he moved to Italy to play forZebreand announced his retirement from professional rugby in May 2016.[6]
