Mangong(Korean:만공;Hanja:Mãn không,1871–1946) orSong Mangongwas aKoreanBuddhistmonk,independence activist,scholar, poet, writer, and philosopher during theJapanese occupationof Korea. Mangong was born inJeongeup,Jeonbuk Provincein 1871 and was ordained at the age of 14.[1]Though he spent three years teachingZen traditioninMahayeon TempleinKeumkang Mountainand briefly served as theabbotofMagok Temple,he spent most of his life teaching Zen atDeoksung MountaininYesan,Chungnam Province.Mangong revitalized the Zen tradition ofKorean Buddhismalong with his teacher,Zen MasterKyongho.[2]
