At age 16, Valverde had her feature film debut inThe Weakness of the Bolshevik,[2]for which she won Best New Actress at the18th Goya Awards.Her other films includeMelissa P.,based on the bookOne Hundred Strokes of the Brush Before BedbyMelissa Panarello,andThree Steps Above Heaven.

From 2009 to 2014 Valverde was in a relationship with the Spanish actorMario Casaswith whom she starred in three movies.[3]In March 2017, Valverde married Venezuelan conductorGustavo Dudamel.[4]
