Early life
editMikaila became interested in singing when she was 3 years old. She is of French, Spanish andNative Mexicandescent. Mikaila's family were members of Citychurch.[1]She also has an older sister named Jessica.[2]At the age of three she began singing gospel music.[3]Mikaila's parents enrolled her in voice lessons when she was four years old.[4]She attended Washington Irving Elementary School in Oklahoma. After moving toDallaswith her family, she became a regular performer at Texas Rangers games. After heading to New York, she had meetings with several labels. It was at that time that Barbara Cameron, the mother of formerGrowing PainsstarKirk Cameronand formerFull HousestarCandace Cameron Burebecame her agent.[5]Marty Rendleman eventually became her music manager.[6]
Career
editIn 1996, Mikaila was signed to the independent record label Union Records and released her debut gospel albumThis Little Light.Proceeds from the album benefited children who lost their parents in the1995 Oklahoma City Bombing.The following year, Mikaila released her second albumDreams.Then in 1997, she was cast as Melina Finch during the 2nd Season ofWishbone.[7]In 1998, she reprised her role in the filmWishbone's Dog Days of the West;Mikaila performedAmerica The BeautifulandThis Little Light of Mineon the film's soundtrack.
In 2000, at the age of 13, Mikaila left Union Records and was signed toIsland Records.At that year, she released the single "So In Love With Two" which went to No. 29 on theRhythmic Top 40Billboardchart, No. 25 on theBillboardHot 100, and No. 27 onBillboard'sTop 40 Mainstream.[8]Mikaila was the opening act forBritney Spearsduring herOops!... I Did It Again Tour.[9]In November 2000, Mikaila performed "So In Love With Two" during the 74th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. In December 2000, she performed at Jingle Ball 2000.[10]
In March 2001, Mikaila released her third and final studio albumMikaila.The album became No. 20 on theTop Heatseekerschart and was followed by a Spanish version of the album a few months later. Her second and final single from the album, "It's All Up To You", failed to impact any major charts. Later that year, Mikaila's track "Perfect World" was featured on the soundtrack for the filmGet Over It.In 2002, Mikaila retired from the entertainment industry. After graduating from high school, Mikaila moved to Phoenix, Arizona.
