Early life

Gibson was born on 19 June 2004 inGreater Manchester.She has a scar on her right eyebrow from falling downstairs as a baby.[2]From theTamesidevillage ofBroadbottom,[3]she attended theBlue Coat SchoolinOldham.[4][5]She took drama classes atOldham Theatre Workshop,where she was spotted by Manchester Media City talent agency Scream Management, which began representing her.[5][6]

Early career (2017–2018)

Gibson made her acting debut as Indira Cave in theCBBCtelevision seriesJamie Johnsonin 2017.[7]She went on to appear in the second and third series, appearing in a total of 17 episodes.[8]

In November 2017, she appeared as Mia in the third episode of theBBC Onedrama seriesLove, Lies and Records.[9][10]

In October 2018, she appeared in the three-partITVdrama seriesButterflyas Lily Duffy.[11][12]

Coronation Street(2019–2022)

In June 2019, Gibson joined the cast of the ITV soap operaCoronation StreetasKelly Neelan.[13]She originally appeared in five episodes[14]before returning as a regular character in April 2020. For her portrayal of Kelly, she won the award forBest Young Performerat the2022 British Soap Awards.[15][16][17]She was also nominated for Best Actress at theInside SoapAwardslater that year.[18]

In August 2022, it was announced Gibson had decided to leave the soap and that she would depart later in the year.[19][20]She made her final on-screen appearance as Kelly on 23 September 2022.[21]

Doctor Who(2023–present)

In November 2022, it was announced during the BBC's annualChildren in Needtelethon that Gibson would join the cast ofDoctor Whoin 2023 asRuby Sunday,thecompanionof theFifteenth Doctor,portrayed byNcuti Gatwa.[22]She made her debut in the 2023 Christmas special, "The Church on Ruby Road",and is due to continue in the role for select appearances in thefifteenth seriesin 2025,[23]alongside Gatwa withVarada Sethujoining the cast as an additional companion.[24]
