Minobu(Thân diên đinh,Minobu-chō)is atownlocated inYamanashi Prefecture,Japan.As of 1 June 2019[update],the town had an estimatedpopulationof 11,674 in 5447 households,[1]and apopulation densityof 39 persons per km2.The total area of the town is 302.00 square kilometres (116.60 sq mi).

Geography
editMinobu is in south-central Yamanashi Prefecture. TheFuji Riverpasses through the town, which is dominated by the sacred Mount Minobu. It also sharesLake Motosuwith neighbouringFujikawaguchiko.

editThe town has a climate characterized by hot and humid summers, and relatively mild winters (Köppen climate classificationCfa). The average annual temperature in Minobu is 14.1 °C. The average annual rainfall is 1540 mm with September as the wettest month. The temperatures are highest on average in August, at around 26.0 °C, and lowest in January, at around 2.6 °C.[2]

editPer Japanese census data,[5]the population of Minobu has declined substantially during the second half of the 20th century and in early 21st century; the town had a peak population of just under 40,000 and in 2020 recorded a population of 10,663 in the urban area.

History
editMinobu developed from theKamakura periodas a temple town outside the gates of the important Buddhist temple ofKuon-ji,one of the primary head temples of theNichiren Shū.
During the reform of the earlyMeiji periodon April 1, 1889, Minamikoma District within Yamanashi Prefecture was created and organized into 22 villages. Minobu village was raised to town status on January 1, 1931. On February 11, 1955 the town expanded by annexing three neighboring villages. On September 13, 2004, Minobu absorbed the towns ofNakatomi,also from Minamikoma District, and Shimobe, fromNishiyatsushiro District.
