Jackman was born atBasildon Hospital,where his father, a consultantradiologistand his mother, Susan, a radiology technician, worked and met.[1]He was aboarderatThe King's School, Canterbury.[1]His father died when Jackman was 18.[1]He read law at theUniversity of the West of EnglandinBristol,and was diagnosed as dyslexic when aged 37.[1]

He was the defence solicitor in the landmarkR v Peacockcase, in 2012, which was seen as a test of theObscene Publications Act 1959.[2][3]He also successfully defendedSimon Walsh,in another 2012 case, seen as a test ofSection 63 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008.[1]During the latter trial he was the first acting solicitor allowed tolive tweetfrom a British trial.[1]The same year, he was awarded the Junior Lawyer of the Year Excellence Award by theLaw Society of England and Wales.[1][4]

In March 2016, he was appointed Legal Director of theOpen Rights Group.[5]

He also writes as a journalist on matters related to pornography and the law,[6]and providespro bonoadvice to the pressure groupBacklash.[4]
