Otfried Cheong(Korean:오트프리드 정;formerlyOtfried Schwarzkopf) is a Germancomputational geometerworking inSouth KoreaatKAIST.He is known as one of the authors of the widely usedcomputational geometry textbookComputational Geometry: Algorithms and Applications(withMark de Berg,Marc van Kreveld,andMark Overmars)[1]and as the developer ofIpe,avector graphics editor.

Cheong completed his doctorate from theFree University of Berlinin 1992 under the supervision ofHelmut Alt.[2] He joined KAIST in 2005, after previously holding positions atUtrecht University,Pohang University of Science and Technology,Hong Kong University of Science and Technology,and theEindhoven University of Technology.[3]Cheong was co-chair of theSymposium on Computational Geometryin 2006, withNina Amenta.[4] In 2017 he was recognized by theAssociation for Computing Machineryas a Distinguished Scientist.[5]
