ThePirita(Estonian:Pirita jõgi) is a 105 km (65 mi) long river in northernEstoniathat drains intoTallinn Bay(part of theGulf of Finland) inPirita,Tallinn.The basin area of the Pirita is 799 km2.[1]

As part of theTallinn water supply system,the Pirita is impounded into thePaunkülaand Vaskjala Reservoirs. The reservoir inVaskjalais connected over a canal to theLake ÜlemisteinTallinn,where the Ülemiste Water Treatment Plant is situated. Additional water is directed to the Pirita from theJägala,SoodlaandPärnurivers through a canal network that joins the Pirita inVeskitaguse.
