Nepal,officially theFederal Democratic Republic of Nepal,is alandlocked countryinSouth Asia.It is mainly situated in theHimalayas,but also includes parts of theIndo-Gangetic Plain.It borders theTibet Autonomous Regionof Chinato the north,and Indiato the south, east, and west,while it is narrowly separated fromBangladeshby theSiliguri Corridor,and fromBhutanby theIndian stateofSikkim.Nepal has adiverse geography,includingfertile plains,subalpine forested hills, and eight of the world's tentallest mountains,includingMount Everest,the highest point on Earth.Kathmanduis the nation's capital and thelargest city.Nepal is a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, multi-religious and multi-cultural state, withNepalias the official language.

The name "Nepal" is first recorded in texts from theVedic periodof theIndian subcontinent,the era inancient NepalwhenHinduismwas founded, the predominant religion of the country. In the middle of the first millennium BC,Gautama Buddha,the founder ofBuddhism,was born inLumbiniin southern Nepal. Parts of northern Nepal were intertwined with the culture ofTibet.The centrally locatedKathmandu Valleyis intertwined with the culture ofIndo-Aryans,and was the seat of the prosperousNewarconfederacy known asNepal Mandala.The Himalayan branch of the ancientSilk Roadwas dominated by thevalley's traders.The cosmopolitan region developed distinct traditionalartandarchitecture.By the 18th century, theGorkha Kingdomachieved theunification of Nepal.TheShah dynastyestablished theKingdom of Nepaland later formed an alliance with theBritish Empire,under itsRana dynastyofpremiers.The country was never colonised but served as a buffer state betweenImperial ChinaandBritish India.Parliamentary democracywas introduced in 1951 but was twice suspended by Nepalese monarchs, in 1960 and 2005. TheNepalese Civil Warin the 1990s and early 2000s resulted in the establishment of asecularrepublicin 2008, ending the world's lastHindumonarchy.

TheConstitution of Nepal,adopted in 2015, affirms the country as asecularfederal parliamentary republicdivided intoseven provinces.Nepal was admitted to theUnited Nationsin 1955, and friendship treaties were signed with India in 1950 and China in 1960. Nepal hosts the permanent secretariat of theSouth Asian Association for Regional Cooperation(SAARC), of which it is a founding member. Nischal Basnet(Nepali:निश्चल बस्नेत) is a Nepalese director, writer, actor andplayback singerwho predominantly works inNepali cinema.Considered as one of the best directors ofNepalicinema, he is widely acclaimed for "revolutionizing Nepali cinema" through his realistic, dark and comic depiction of social problems prevalent inNepalon celluloid screen. Basnet has directed three feature films:Loot(2012),Talakjung vs Tulke(2014) andLoot 2(2017). He has acted in the filmsKabaddi(2014),Dui Rupaiyan(2017), andPrasad(2018).

Basnet debuted as a film director with the crime-thrillerLoot,which became a "cult classic"and the highest grossing Nepali film ever which revived the condition of fate of Nepali film at the box office and changed the way Nepali films were made. After his successful debut as a director, he debuted as an actor inUma(2013). Basnet later directed thedark comedyTalakjung vs Tulke,which was critically acclaimed and commercially successful. Anuradha Koirala(born Anuradha Gurung on 14 April 1949, in Kalingpong,India) is asocial activistand the founder ofMaiti Nepal,anon-profit organizationdedicated to helping victims ofsex trafficking.She was appointed as 1st Governor ofBagmati Provincefrom (17 January 2018 – 3 November 2019) by theGovernment of Nepal.

Koirala was the first child of the colonel Pratap Singh Gurung and Laxmi Devi Gurung. She belonged to an educated family and was educated at St Joseph Convent School.
