Inlaw,aprerogativeis anexclusive rightbestowed by agovernmentorstateand invested in an individual or group, the content of which is separate from the body ofrightsenjoyed under the generallaw.It was a common facet offeudal law.The word is derived from Old Frenchprerogative(14c.), M.L.prerogativa"special right", from Latinpraerogativa"prerogative, previous choice or election", originally (withtribus,centuria) "100 voters who by lot voted first in the Romancomitia",frompraerogativus(adj.) "chosen to vote first".[1]
