Reinhold von Warlich(May 24, 1877 - November 10, 1939) was a Russian-born Americanbass-baritone.[1]
Biography
editHe was born inSt. Petersburg, Russiaon May 24, 1877. His father was the musical director for the private orchestra ofNicholas II of Russia.[2][1]
He studied at theHamburg Conservatoryand then inFlorence, Italy.[1]
He sang in Florence withG. SulliandI. Braggiotti,and in Cologne withR. Thiele.He made his solo début in Florence in 1899. He toured England, Germany and France. He spent some years in Paris as a singing teacher. HisUnited Statesdébut was in 1909 atMendelssohn HallinManhattan, New York City.[1][2]
In 1910 in Paris he married Georgia Cheatham Maize, the widow and second wife ofEdward Judson Ovington,who owned the Ovington Gift Shop in Manhattan. Georgia and von Warlich divorced in 1917.[3]
In 1923 he marriedBertha von Turk-Rohn,daughter of BaronessOlga von Turk-Rohn.[2][3]
He died on November 10, 1939, inManhattan, New York City.[2]
